There is no cost to apply or attend. All of our Scholastic Esports Academies are FREE.

Upcoming Academies

Our Online Scholastic Esports Academies are open to general managers (or adults affiliated with an official NASEF club) and participating high school students. Led by coaches from the NASEF league, these academies use a train-the-trainer model to prepare a new cohort of coaches to support NASEF clubs as the federation grows. Participants in these academies will learn best practices in esports coaching, from strategies for working with youth in an esports setting to developing productive practice and training sessions using scrims, VOD review, and other techniques. This year our academies will also help GMs and Students navigate specific esports including League of Legends. All participants will receive a NASEF certificate of coaching upon completion.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS Coaching for Advisors and Educators

Our Online Scholastic Esports Academy: League of Legends Coaching for Advisors and Educators will be for active NASEF General Managers or adults affiliated with an official NASEF esports Club. This season our GM Coaching Academy aims to unpack the fundamentals of League of Legends and the basics of coaching the game. Our GM coaching Academy will consist of two 90 min sessions facilitated by NASEF coaching staff. This academy will also include projects, quizzes, group discussions and a private discord channel for coaches and GMs to interact.

Prerequisites:

  • You must be an active NASEF General Manager, or an adult (18 years or older) officially affiliated with a NASEF esports Club
  • Plan to participate and field a team in our upcoming League of Legends season
  • Have basic to intermediate experience playing and/or watching competitive League of Legends
  • Interested in learning the basics and fundamentals of League of Legends and how to coach it
  • Available to commit to attending each session in full (two 90 minute sessions)
  • Open to participating in group activities, projects and quizzes to test your knowledge 
  • Have access to an active Discord account and the NASEF Educator server
  • Access to microphone/headset
  • Able to open Zoom on computer or phone

Our Online Scholastic Esports Academy: League of Legends Coaching for Students will include three 90-minute sessions of fundamental instruction specific to Legends, plus an additional four hours of hands-on mentorship with an assigned NASEF coach. Our Student Coaching Academy will also include the chance to participate in individual projects, group discussions, and a private Discord channel for coaches and students to discuss ongoing development throughout this season.

Coaching for Advisors and Educators

Our Online Scholastic Esports Academy: Coaching for Advisors and Educators is open to active General Managers and other interested faculty members of a high school community or community-based organization. Led by coaches from NASEF and powered by program partner Connected Camps, our academy uses a train-the-trainer model to prepare aspiring esports coaches to support their NASEF clubs and players. Participants in the academy will learn best practices in esports coaching, from strategies for working with youth in an esports setting to developing productive practice and training sessions using scrims, VOD review, and other techniques. The academy will also help new coaches learn the ins and outs of running tournaments, giving feedback, and supporting youth in social emotional learning online.

You will learn valuable skills, such as how to:

  • Train competitive team within clubs for league competition
  • Reinforce and model league values/pillars and club charter
  • Assist general manager in the selection of players for the competitive team
  • Manage scrimmage schedule for team
  • Communicating training and scrimmage schedule with GM
  • Understand all league rules and regulations, and assure compliance and consistency among athletes
  • Support players in creating and tracking individual and team goals
  • Provide high quality feedback and mentorship to the team
  • Develop an inclusive culture of constructive reflective practice with the team
  • Support teams in dealing with conflict in a positive and constructive way

Tournament Organizing for Students

This week-long learning experience for high school students takes the elements and strength of our in-person camps (formerly in collaboration with program partner UCI Esports) and brings them online! NASEF’s Tournament Organizing for Students academy is open to high school students looking to learn the ins and outs of the esports ecosystem across four sectors: Organizers, Entrepreneurs, Strategists, and Content Creators. By the end of the the summer academy, students will be able to develop a tournament of their own for their high school or community-based organization!

During this Academy, you will:

  • Connect with a community of esports enthusiasts and professionals
  • Participate in an organized 5-day event made up of special guests, expert facilitators, hands on workshops and small group discussions
  • Access to open Q&A sessions with your favorite facilitators throughout the week
  • Develop a collaborative capstone project of your choice that you can implement on your high school or community-based organizations campus

Coaching for Students

Our Online Scholastic Esports Academy: Coaching for Students iss open to students and other interested members of a school community or community-based organization. Led by coaches from NASEF in partnership with program partner Connected Camps, our academy is designed to prepare aspiring esports coaches to support their NASEF teammates and peers. Participants in the academy will learn best practices in esports coaching, from managing toxicity and tilt to developing productive practice and training sessions using scrims, VOD review, and other techniques. The academy will also help new coaches learn the ins and outs of running tournaments, giving feedback, and supporting their peers.
